GRILLONS par Cynthia Atkins

Constellations call my heart home
Energy that created the world
Lives in me
Constantly speaking
Let there be
I align
Inhale
Exhale
Watch it unfold like flowers
Opening to the light
I expand each time
Relaxing into God
Falling into brightness
Swimming in possibilities
Drinking Spirit’s goodness
It’s good for my body
Bones
Mind
Filling me to overflow
I begin to shine and shimmer
I got God in my helix
My origin story is Black girl magic
Peel back the veil
Sky open to more sky
Greater expanse
The stars have stars
So much light
My eyes change
Adjust to new colors
Remember//breathe
Inhale
Exhale
I cry light-filled tears that
Leave rainbows not salt

Sometimes Black bodies have too much

Iron in the blood

Metal calls out to its own kind

Makes sure the bullets find their mark
